47.8 million U.S. workers – that’s how many voluntarily quit their jobs in 2021.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted our lives in many different ways, but most notably gave way to what we now know as the Great Resignation. The nation’s “quit rate” reached a 20-year high in November 2021.

While we were all made fully aware of this ongoing economic trend, many people were left wondering the “why’s” behind the movement. And a new Pew Research Center survey helps corroborate our message by finding the following to be the top reasons Americans quit their jobs last year:

  • Lack of Opportunities for advancement
  • Feeling Disrespected at work
